Day 5: Disappointment
Today was our last day at the temples and in Siem Reap. We were going to a Temple that was about an hour away called Banreay Srei.
After a long and bumpy tuk tuk ride we got to the temple and I was pretty disappointed because of how small it was. The carvings were some of the most impressive though, but the central part of the temple was blocked off to tourists to enter so that was really disappointing.
Our next intention was to visit the Floating markets, which was another hour and a half tuk tuk ride back from the temple. Another bumpy ride (which everyone but me managed to fall asleep on) and we arrived at the boat ticket booths. FIFTEEN DOLLARS EACH is what they charged for four of us. The man running the business was really rude and non negotiable and it was easy to see he made a fortune from tourists and didnt care if we bought tickets or not. While contimplating the price, two Canadian girls returned back from there boat trip saying that it was the worst thing they have ever done and that they wanted their money back. Apparently they spent 2 hours riding around just getting pestered and begged for money. And they paid $20 each because they were only two people! So we decided not to go… Maybe next time im in Thailand I will visit the Bangkok floating markets instead.
After that we just came back to the hotel and chilled on the internet and bought some snacks until we had to catch our sleeper bus to sihanoukville.
The sleeper bus was really cool, 33 beds in a bus and it was so easy to sleep in (besides the bumpy road) but I had my ear plugs and sleeping mask so I slept pretty well. Too well.
Crouton and the girl underneath her were both searching for their iphones in the morning until they realised they had been stolen. Reallly really crap thing to happen so early on our holiday. But I suppose we need to think that it could have been worse (passport, camera, money, cards). Travel insurance will cover it but its a lesson learnt for us to be extra careful especially while asleep on a bus full of people.
