Tuk tuk Mafia

Day two - Train to Cambodia

I am currently sitting in a rickety old carriage on the train to the Thai/Cambodia border. It’s raining and the sun is just about to rise behind the smoggy atmosphere making the sky appear a yellowish tinge. About an hour outside of Bangkok the white dirt stained buildings are gone and we now have visions of banana trees and small family homes. The train is filling up and I think it’s going to be a squishy 6 hour ride.

People slowly left the train and I even had a short nap. When we finally arrived in Aryanprathet we were whisked onto a Tuk Tuk and taken to the border. We had read that they try and take you to a fake border (which they did) so we just ignored them and walked a few hundred metres down the road to the real border and got some more stamps and a Cambodian visa. So many transfers! They THEN put us on a bus to a tourist info centre, and then we organised a taxi with two other guys we met to go Siem Reap! Then they put us in a tuk tuk! Over here the tuk tuk and taxi drivers are bit like the mafia… They tell you they will take you to the best place to stay and the drivers stop at shops so you might buy things, (and i think they get things in return) so you really cant trust anyone. The guesthouse we originally looked up was booked out so one of the other guys said he had found one on trip advisor aaand we found it and are staying here! Its $5 a night and like a 3 star hotel with our own bathroom and beds.

We just ate dinner and walked around the night markets for a while, booked our tickets to sihanoukville and are nw sooo ready for bed!! Body is sooo achy from all the walking!
