Day 6 & 7: Lusaka and Chipata

Driving days. Eeek.

We left Livingstone and had a nice 7 hour drive to Lusaka. The road was pretty good actually, so many little villages along the way which is quite normal everywhere now.

We stopped at one roadside market near the Luongo River and the main thing along there was this dried out fish just sitting in the sun.. Urrlghh can’t imagine that woyld be very hygenic! The only orher things they had were like woven straw baskets and hats and some sarong skirt type things.

Lusaka is the captial of Zambia so it was a pretty big city but we stayed on the outskirts at a campsite. Chipata is right near the border of Zambia and Malawi and we stayed at a really nice campsite there and went for a super refreshing swim in the pool there after an 11 hour bus trip to Chipata. All the campsites so far have had little dogs or cats everywhere who are the owners i guess, so thats nice to have a scratch and a cuddle with them. :)

Day 8: On the way to Kande Beach, Lake Malawi, Malawi! Another driving day…

I am on the bus now aaand we have crossed the border into Malawi! All the little kids are still waving at us, so cute :) i’ve got some cool stamps in my passport now too, yeaaah.

We are going to Kande Beach tonight and having a black rubbish bag party and we have to come up with idea of how to dress another person in their rubbish bag.

~later on~

we didnt end up having the party pn the first night instead we went swimming with some locals in the lake and it was so much fun. The water on Lake Malawi is so clear and warm :)

Day 9: Lake Malawi! T.I.A. (This is Africa)

I woke up early, maybe like 5.30 or 6am and we went for a swim in the lake… It was sooo nice. Ahh Kande Beach was beautiful! We went for the village tour after that from 9-12. It was a little too intense but still really awesome.. All the local boys followed us on the tour trying to get us to buy what they made by being friendly but it was really annoying mostly, i dont think they understand or it must be different in their culture. The tour was reallly good though we went around the village and saw the houses and hospital (where a doctor only came once a month) and the school. The kids were really cute and wanted to hold our hand and get pictures and have piggy backs. The school kids sang us a song too and then us aussies sang them waltzing matilda! Haha. We then went to our guides house and had an African lunch that was bread, rice, bananas and also this catfish dish to put on the rice. Im definitely glad i did it but by the end we were all very tired from the boys hassling us to buy things. It was kinda funny all ofthe boys had english names, our guide was Mel Gibson, we met Sean Kingston and Brad Pitt, cheese on toast, stan the man, banjo… Haha was pretty funny.

Had a really relaxing afternoon though swimming and playing beach volleyball until we got ready for our plastic bag party! It was sooo hot being dressed up in them but it was so fun everyone looked really good, i was an angel and steph was miss piggy. We had some punch and went swimming again and dancing at the bar. :) it was 11/11/11 and we missed the morning one so we were trying to stay up til 11pm but because i usually wake up around 5.30 here with the sun i was sooo tired and only lasted until like 10 haha damn.

Hope you Aussies and Canadians are doing well x
